San Antonio, TX, Oct. 29, 2009 - Artpace San Antonio announces a unique opportunity for teachers to be inspired by 09.3 International Artist in Residence and education advocate Mario Ybarra, Jr. through a CPE-certified seminar on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 10am - 2pm. As a guest lecturer at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles and a 2008 Whitney Biennial participant, Ybarra lends his expertise in both art production and education to an interactive workshop focusing on key issues of art production, respect, and collaboration in the classroom and beyond. The session is open to all teachers and offers 4 CPE credits. Space is limited and reservations are required with a $10 registration fee.

"He is one of a new generation of American artists of Mexican descent who, in contrast to many of their forebears, do not reject their American identities but embrace equally both of the trajectories in their backgrounds."
The artist is the founder of the art collective Slanguage, based in Wilmington , California . He draws inspiration from southern California 's mix of Mexican-American inhabitants, history, and street culture for his large-scale, multi-media installations, public performances, and community-based projects. Ybarra's 09.3 Artpace residency project opens to the public on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 6:30pm.
