SAN ANTONIO, TX ?in Artpace on Thursday, August 25, 2005 at 6:30 PM in the Hudson (Show)Room for an exclusive preview of ?ay?the fourth segment in the third season of Art21: Art in the Twenty-First Century. Featuring former Artpace residents Arturo Herrera and Oliver Herring, along with artists Ellen Gallagher and Jessica Stockholder, ?ay?eveals artists who fearlessly tap improvisation and games, spontaneity and mundane objects, to make art that is simultaneously whimsical and profound. Discover four contemporary artists who draw inspiration from dance and music, and employ color, pattern and movement to induce delight. The segment also includes a newly commissioned video by Teresa Hubbard/Alexander Birchler, whose work was shown in the Hudson(Show)Room in 2002.

This Emmy-nominated series will air on KLRN, September 16, 23, 30 and October 7, 9:00 PM and is the only television series devoted to contemporary art, helping to demystify America?artists and revealing them to be articulate, thoughtful, and hard-working. Art21: Art in the Twenty-First Century presents insights into the artist?process of channeling creative impulses into physical artworks, allowing viewers to observe various artists at work. ?ay?irs on October 7.

Prior to the screening, Artpace?Assistant Curator Kate Green, will provide an introduction to contemporary art and the artists featured in Play. Courtesy of Artpace and KLRN, educators who attend will receive free interactive teaching components. Refreshments will be provided.

This event is presented in collaboration with Art21, a non-profit contemporary art organization that produces the PBS series, Art21: rt in the Twenty-First Century, company books, web site (www.pbs.org/art21), educational resources, and outreach programs.
